Design Review

The Need

Product design is and will always be a challenging task. For the best results, application design requires a team of individuals from different background and with many complementary skills. Developing and maintaining this kind of team over a long period of time is a difficult task for most ISVs.

In the on-demand world, design is a constant, recurring task, best handled with Agile development techniques. Product and application development teams coming from a licensed model generally work on release schedules that can be from several months to longer than a year. Switching to a more Agile model is a challenging task for these teams without some planning and help.

The Solution

Scio offers a planned Design Review engagement where our team of architects review the current design of the application and provide valuable feedback to your development team. Our team will work collaboratively with your team to review the application design, infrastructure and validate user experience as needed.

Our Approach

  • Our team of architects will thoroughly review your current design and work with your team to further understand the reasons behind design decisions. At each step, our team provides current documentation and any immediate findings that should be considered.

  • After gaining a good understanding of the current design the team will work with the Product Owner to identity requirements that could impact the design and will also gain a better understanding of the current and future user base.

  • With all that information gathered and documented, the team will start making recommendations and at the end of the engagement the proposed design will have been validated by all members of both teams.

For a typical SaaS application our team will review areas such as:

  • Tenancy Model
  • Ordering, Provisioning, Billing
  • Identification and Authentication
  • Scalability and Resource Management
  • Reliability & Supportability
  • Metering

Key Value-Added Elements

  • Scio’s strong background in web applications design and web applications operations will both validate and enrich your current design.
  • Our set of proven design patterns and practices combined with your experience will put you in the right direction for building a high quality product.

Value Received

  • Assurance that the design is solid, scalable and effective.
  • Design validated against Industry’s best practices and business requirements.
  • Clear, concise deliverables that your team is part of and has an "ownership stake" in to assure continuity.
