CASE STUDY · DATA MANAGEMENT
Building the product and a better way to work together.
Veritas needed a robust mailbox management application, but the challenge went beyond software development. Previous offshore experiences had been affected by communication breakdowns, after-hours work, and misunderstood requirements.
The challenge
The product needed to work. So did the collaboration.
Veritas set out to build a mailbox management application with email archiving, advanced search capabilities, and Outlook integration. But its previous experience with offshore development had also created another priority: improving the way an external engineering team worked with the organization.
Communication breakdowns, misunderstood project requirements, and work happening outside normal hours had made collaboration harder than it needed to be. The goal was therefore not only to build the application, but to establish a working relationship based on better communication and mutual understanding.
The operating need
Better engineering support required a better working model.
Adding external engineering capacity would not solve the underlying problem if the same communication issues remained.
Veritas needed a team that could understand the requirements, stay aligned throughout the work, and collaborate without relying on the patterns that had caused friction in earlier offshore relationships.
The objective had two sides: build the application Veritas needed and create a more reliable way to work together.
The approach
Build the application while building shared understanding.
Scio worked with Veritas over an eight-year collaboration, addressing both the product development needs and the way the teams worked together.
The engineering work focused on a mailbox management application that included email archiving, advanced search capabilities, and integration with Outlook. At the same time, the long-term collaboration created greater mutual understanding and more streamlined working processes.
Rather than treating communication as separate from delivery, the relationship developed alongside the product.

What changed in the workflow
Product development and collaboration improved together.
The engagement addressed both the software Veritas needed and the operating friction that had shaped its previous outsourcing experience.

Mailbox management
The team developed a mailbox management application designed to support the core functionality Veritas required.

Email archiving and search
The application included email archiving and advanced search capabilities, giving the product the functionality required to manage and retrieve mailbox information.

Outlook integration
Integration with Outlook connected the application with an established part of users’ email environment.
The outcome
A working product and a relationship built to last.
Over the course of the eight-year collaboration, Veritas gained the mailbox management application it set out to build while the working relationship moved beyond the communication problems that had characterized previous offshore engagements.
The existing case study describes the relationship as evolving beyond a traditional client-vendor dynamic, with stronger mutual understanding and more streamlined processes replacing miscommunication and after-hours work.

A complete mailbox management application
Veritas gained an application with email archiving, advanced search, and Outlook integration.

Better communication
The collaboration addressed the communication breakdowns and misunderstood requirements that had affected previous offshore experiences.

A long-term working relationship
Across eight years, the relationship developed into a more trusting collaboration built around mutual understanding and streamlined processes.
External engineering works better when the relationship gets better over time.
For Veritas, the result was not only a mailbox management application. It was also an eight-year collaboration in which communication, understanding, and the way the teams worked together became part of the value being delivered.
